I’ve been tracking my gongfu tea consumption since 2020. I mostly started tracking it because i wanted to know which tea i still have and how much of it. But so far i haven’t looked too much at that data. So to maybe start a trend here are some quick facts about my tea year 2024.
Some notes though before we look at the numbers: i only track consumption of tea i drink in my gaiwan or similar. I do not track commodity tea like breakfast tea or tea i drink in the office. Also i sometimes gift some of my tea which will count as consumption but these amounts are most of the time not worth more than a few sessions.
With that out of the way, here are some numbers: In the year 2024 i recorded 206 sessions, of which 119 were sheng. Then 32 black, 27 green, 14 oolong, 13 shou and 1 white. In these 206 sessions i drank a total of 1121g of tea. Broken up by type: 683g sheng, 162g black, 116g green, 82g shou, 73g oolong and 5g white.
My top 5 most drank teas are: Fa Zhan He with 23 sessions, Jingmai Miyun with 16 sessions, The thing still is and La sombra both with 13 sessions and Snoozefest with 11 sessions.
And i have to say that tracks. The 2023 Fa Zhan He was absolutely my favourite and i hope the 2024 version is just as good.
For my gongfu tea i mostly buy my tea once a year on black friday from online vendors. For my casual tea i buy whenever i want from local stores. So in 2024 i acquiried 2028g tea, with 1571g of sheng, 250g of green, 135g of oolong, 50g of black and 22g of shou tea.
Of course these numbers are heavily in favour of sheng. But my casual tea consumption is mostly black tea which i can only guess but it should be around 700g to 1000g a year.
Overall i spent 342€ on all my tea in 2024.
I intend to continue tracking my consumption and my finances so it should be interesting to look at this year after year. This blogpost was just putting some SQL statements into words. In the future i might build a more interactive page. Also i want to track my casual tea consumption better. Not on the level of my gongfu consumption but at least the overall amounts.
